Low Country Boil

Low Country Boil (also called Frogmore Stew) is the ultimate one-pot feast. It’s not really a “stew”—it’s a massive pile of fresh shrimp, spicy sausage, sweet corn, and buttery potatoes all boiled together in a heavily seasoned broth.

In the South, we usually dump this straight onto a table covered in newspaper and let everyone dig in with their hands.


Southern Low Country Boil

1. The Ingredients

  • 5 quarts Water

  • 1/2 cup Old Bay Seasoning (or Zatarain’s)

  • 2 pounds Baby Red Potatoes (whole)

  • 1 pound Smoked Sausage (Kielbasa or Andouille, sliced into 2-inch chunks)

  • 4 ears Corn (husked and snapped into thirds)

  • 2 pounds Large Shrimp (raw, peel-on is best for flavor)

  • 1/2 cup Butter (melted, for dipping)

  • 2 Lemons (cut into wedges)
