In the military and across the South, this is famously known as S.O.S. (Sh*t on a Shingle). It’s essentially a savory, creamy gravy made with beef and served over toasted bread (the “shingles”).

While the military version often uses chipped beef, the Southern Comfort version uses seasoned ground beef for a heartier, more flavorful meal.

  • 1 pound Ground Beef (or Chipped Beef, if you want the classic military style)

  • 4 tablespoons Butter

  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour

  • 3 cups Whole Milk (warmed slightly)

  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt (add more at the end)

  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper (the more the better)
