How to Fix a Broken Zipper in Just One Minute – No Tailor Needed

Sometimes the zipper “breaks” because the slider has stretched open over time and can’t pinch the teeth together.

  1. Pinch the Sides: Take your pliers and gently squeeze the back “shoulders” of the zipper slider.

  2. Test: Do not squeeze too hard or you’ll lock the slider in place. A tiny bit of pressure often restores the connection needed to zip things back up.

Quick Maintenance Tips

  • Lubricate: Running a #2 pencil over the teeth adds graphite, which acts as a dry lubricant to keep the slider moving smoothly.

  • Avoid Force: If it snags, pull it back down slightly and check for caught fabric before pulling up again.

Is the slider completely off the track, or is it just getting stuck at that specific spot?
