My uncle would make these on cold weekend afternoons, and the smell coming from the kitchen was always unbelievable. It still amazes me how something made with just 4 simple ingredients could taste and smell this good.

Top each packet with pieces of butter, distributing them evenly over the ingredients.

Tip: As the butter melts, it coats the potatoes and sausage with rich flavor while helping everything cook together.

Step 3: Seal the Packets
Fold the foil over the ingredients and crimp the edges tightly to seal. Leave a little space inside each packet for steam to circulate.

Visual Cue: The packets should look like sealed pouches with enough room inside for the ingredients to steam properly.

Step 4: Bake
Place the packets on a baking sheet and bake for 35–45 minutes.

Visual Cue: The potatoes should be fork-tender and the packets slightly puffed from the steam inside.

Step 5: Optional Crisp Finish
For extra browning, carefully open the tops of the packets and bake for another 5–10 minutes.

Tip: Opening the packets at the end allows some moisture to evaporate, giving the sausage and onions a richer roasted flavor.
