Easy Southern 4-Ingredient Cucumber Sandwiches (Classic Tea Party Recipe)

 

Step 1: Prepare the Cream Cheese Spread

In a small bowl, combine:

  • Softened cream cheese

  • Fresh dill (reserve a little for garnish)

  • Lemon juice, garlic powder, or chives (if using)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Mix until smooth and well combined.

Step 2: Prepare the Bread

Use a serrated knife to remove the crusts from each slice of bread. (Save the crusts for breadcrumbs or snacking!)

Step 3: Slice the Cucumber

Wash the cucumber. Slice into very thin rounds (about ⅛-inch thick). An English cucumber works best—it has fewer seeds and thinner skin.

Pro tip: Pat the cucumber slices dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. This prevents soggy sandwiches.

Step 4: Assemble the Sandwiches

  1. Spread a thin, even layer of the cream cheese mixture on one side of each bread slice.

  2. Arrange cucumber slices on half of the bread slices (about 3-4 slices per sandwich).

  3. Top with the remaining bread slices, cream cheese side down.

Step 5: Slice and Arrange

Cut each sandwich into quarters (triangles are traditional, but squares or fingers work too). Arrange on a serving platter.
